I got this message from a friend today:
Why do companies post a job when they already have a specific person in mind for the role? I don’t understand. It happens all the time.
How true this is. Companies post a job opening when they’ve already identified the person they want to hire for the job.
Here’s the reasoning I’ve been told from HR managers and company executives: “We just have to be sure that we hire the best of the best. It is not often we can bring new talent into the business, so we “shop” to be sure.”
So what does this mean for the job seeker?
This is just another great reason to be sure you go to bat many times. Odds are, you will get a new position the more times you are considered for a new opportunity. This doesn’t just mean applying online. Do the homework and network to find a way to be known and considered by the hiring company.
