I post a job, a man I do not know sends me the contact information of someone that would be a good fit for the job.
Classic networking.
Then it gets better.
After thanking him in an email for the recommendation, he replies:
It is my pleasure. I survived being out of work for 75 weeks. It is time to “pay it forward”! I found it amazing how everyone says they will keep an eye out for you, and they really don’t. It is a new found desire for me to try to help all my contacts in any way I can, and sending you my friend’s information is just one way to do it.
Best of luck in the search. Let me know what other type positions in my field you might be recruiting for. I might be able to share some leads.
Sincerely, Ron
When there is nothing at stake, nothing to gain, that is networking. It is unusual. But try it – it is such a rich and rewarding experience.
I sincerely wish Ron the best in the rest of his career. As for me, Ron has made me a colleague for life!
